Bank wars: How 5 Nigerian banks played nasty on Twitter
When the creative brains in Sterling Bank put up a controvesial Ad, Saturday, on their official twitter handle, they were probably just trying to promote the bank and maybe engage in some PR stunts; and may not have factored the reactions it would stir from all corners.

Well, we can confidently say mission and ‘objectives‘ acheived as the bank has not stopped trending on twitter ever since Saturday. The hash tag associated with it – #BankWars has enjoyed the top three trends spot since Saturday.
Also In the middle of this drama is the Nigerian twitter audience who are having a field day putting up memes and posting their own witty comebacks and shades on the warring banks:

Nigerian Banks are happily subbing themselves on Twitter. Sterling Bank subs Union Bank, Access Bank, GT Bank and FirstBank. Union Bank responded, First Bank still preparing their response, Access Bank showed no mercy in their response, GT Bank is still quiet… 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/nVsMxY2lD9

Consequent to the subtle shade the advert threw at First Bank, Union Bank, GTB and Access Bank, all except GTB joined the party and had an even bitting response for Sterling bank.
From the downright nasty to the well composed comebacks, twitter community has been agog since saturday:
First Bank replied with
… And straight into the trash can. #RespectYourElders #MoveOver #NextPlease #YouFirst pic.twitter.com/tkyZe9FVgc
— FirstBank Nigeria (@FirstBankngr) July 21, 2018
What an elder sees while sitting, a child cannot see even if he travels to the moon. #RespectYourElders #YouFirst

Access bank had the most savage reply according to twitter users with:
We will travel on an imaginary rocket too, if we were a one-customer Microfinance Bank; but with ten million customers and counting, we rather bring the galaxy to you! #YouAreWorthIt

And Union bank replied with.
Heading to the moon without a spacesuit…journey mercies🚶🏾♂️🚶🏾♂️#simplersmarterSAFERbanking

The other bank missing in the action is GTB. Even with twitter users giving them mentions, they have said nothing in that respect till today.
