Bank wars: How 5 Nigerian banks played nasty on Twitter

 

When the creative brains in Sterling Bank put up a controvesial Ad, Saturday, on their official twitter handle, they were probably just trying to promote the bank and maybe engage in some PR stunts; and may not have factored the reactions it would stir from all corners.

Well, we can confidently say mission and ‘objectives‘ acheived as the bank has not stopped trending on twitter ever since Saturday. The hash tag associated with it – #BankWars has enjoyed the top three trends spot since Saturday.

Also In the middle of this drama is the Nigerian twitter audience who are having a field day putting up memes and posting their own witty comebacks and shades on the warring banks:

Consequent to the subtle shade the advert threw at First Bank, Union Bank, GTB and Access Bank, all except GTB joined the party and had an even bitting response for Sterling bank.

From the downright nasty to the well composed comebacks, twitter community has been agog since saturday:

The otherย  bank missing in the action is GTB. Even with twitter users giving them mentions, they have said nothing in that respect till today.
