The Global brand Big Brother, which just ended in Nigeria is kicking off soonest in South Africa, this is another opportunity to take your shot at stardom while lining your pocket with the prize money!

No phones, no pressure to reply to WhatsApp messages and no more spending your own cash on groceries – That’s what you get if you move into the Big Brother house.

The catch however is that you also have to spend 24 hours a day with highly annoying people who you can’t escape – you can’t have your cake and still eat it too, can you.

Big Brother Mzansi’s been renewed for another season and the search is on for those who are crazy enough to move in…

Who is the production looking for?

You need to be 21 or older on 1 January 2026.

You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident of South Africa as of 1 October 2025 and need to be in possession of a valid identity document.

The show’s looking for housemates who are fun-loving, creative and original, and… most importantly, they have to be open-minded and tolerant of the views and lifestyle choices of others.

You’ll need to have sufficient physical, psychological and mental capacity to endure approximately 100 days in a monitored house under extraordinary conditions.

You must also be willing to share your most private thoughts.

The theme for the season: Vuk’ubangene! (Wake up and go get ’em!)

What will you win?

There’s no mention of what the prize will be but we presume it to be the usual R2-million because it would suck if it were less.

What must you do?

You need to fill in the entry form on the Big Brother website here >> Big Brother Mzansi

You also need to create and upload a two-minute video showing what you’re made of and explaining why your presence in the house is essential.

This is what you should include in the vid:

1. Video must be maximum 2 minutes in length.

2. It should start with you completing the sentence: “I would make a perfect housemate because…”

3. It must contain your name, e-mail and phone number clearly stated.

4. Avoid all forms of filters, special video effects, copyrighted music and background music.

Tips on making your vid

This from the producers:

1. Be yourself! We want to get to know who you are as a person. How will your life experience help you win Big Brother? How will you interact with the other housemates?

When describing yourself, remember to cite real life examples.

We love a good story!

2. Making a casting video is not about putting together the best skit or wearing the wackiest costumes. We’re looking for real people and we want to see the real you.

3. If you come from a unique region or area of the country, talk about where you’re from, how it’s a part of your personality, or how it may help you do well on Big Brother.

If you have an interesting job, talk about your job and how those skills may help you win the show.

4. Hold camera steady.

5. If shooting indoors, make sure to shoot in a well lit room with lights in front of you to light your face.

6. Shoot during the day so we can see you instead of trying to see you in the dark.

7. Speak loudly and clearly.

8. Find a relatively quiet area to shoot your video so ambient noises won’t distract from what you’re saying.

9. Your video may be shown on a TV. Please shoot your video like you would see it on a TV. Please shoot landscape (horizontal) and not portrait (vertical) style.

Closing date: No closing date has been confirmed yet – we’ll update once it has

Where to watch? Big brother South Africa will available to watch in its dedicated channel on Dstv South Africa. However other countries, like Nigeria, can access it through the stream app.
