9 things we don’t like about Zee World Series

The name Zee World does not need any more introductions to the African audience, ever since 2015 it made its debut on GOTV and DSTV, the channel has been enjoying a lot of attention and reception by Nigerians females especially.

This is quite understandable because they have not fallen short of airing different Bollywood series with themes centered on love, family and romance.

Also, since their inception, they have shown not less than 38 drama series to their audience, some of which were very popular while they aired. Be that as it may, if you have been an adept fan of Zee World and constantly follow most of their series, then they are pitfalls which you may have noticed as this article dissects below:

1. The series seem to have similar theme

Regardless of the fact that we understand that romance is their predominant theme, one would expect a variation or plot development that don’t seem similar to almost all of the airing series. The series seem to be more concerned with marriages, arranged marriages, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law relationship, family conflict, family gang-up against a wife, mistreatment of daughter in-law, Family class and strata, to state a few. These unfortunately seem to be the preoccupation of most ZeeWorld series, and with time may become monotonous for their target audience.

2. They have a tendency to extend their series into numerous episodes (as long as 200 – 1000  episodes!)

Talk about watching a series that seem to run forever! You may even end up following a series for two years and not having the desired climatic ending. And in a bid to combat this trend, Zee World recently increased the run days for their series to 7 days a week (Mon – Sun) as against five days. The cause of this unnecessary length in episodes could not be unconnected to prolonged twists of events and actions, overly extended scenes and unnecessary sub-plots cropping out one after the other in the story.

3. They can easily switch to a new plot while a major story is still running.

This is true especially for series with over 500 episodes, once the story of the main characters seem to have come near a resolution, another crop of character take over, often involving their children or close relative. One would normally expect that the story would soon end, only for another major twist to occur and a new plot surface. Sometimes, it may even be difficult to trace the preceding characters to antecedents. And it may sometimes see like the viewers are being taken for a ride.

4. The resolutions to their story are hardly climatic.

Same as above, once you’ve concluded that the story is finally unraveling and everyone is getting what they deserve, an unexpected twist knocks you off sail and you leave wondering what just happened?! The problem however, is that this new twist are hardly done expertly with dramatic expertise, it would appear rushed and not thought over with a sole aim of elongating the series! And some times, most times causing viewers to lose interest.

5. They seem to be no continuity with scenes, actions and sub-plots raised in a story.

Most of the times as the action unfolds, hints, dialogues and actions suggest that they would yield positive result in future plots or at least lead to the understanding and final resolution of the main story. But sadly, these slip-ups or events are soon forgotten as new action and counter action take over. It would seem like the continuity director or script writers forget that they had shot a particular scene, (e.g. installed a camera around the house, paid someone to follow a person or eavesdrop on a discussion.)

These inputs are simply shoved away leaving the viewers wondering if they had actually heard or watched right some scenes ago.

6. There is a recurring lack of creativity in location and setting.

Most times, these series are shot majorly inside a big family house with all the extended family predominantly indoors while outdoor scenes are relatively few and poorly shot. It makes it seem like the family members are always around without a life of their own. what this does is to make the whole set up quite unnatural and practical. How would the whole member of an extended family always be around at the same time?

7. The camera techniques. Why the expressions of the characters are always important before their dialogue is quite befuddling. And the camera rotating around characters is also a problem to the eye pf the viewers. They are better ways of emphasizing an important scene without coming out as repetitious.

8. Zee World series often have tragic ending

Most of us watch telenovelas because we want to be entertained watching other people who are able to overcome life obstacles but at the end come out victorious. We watch this series to see couples get married in the end, dancing into the sunset or having that big wedding we’ve all been anticipating for.

But alas Zee world has repeatedly dashed some of these hopes through their series, telling us that life isn’t always about happy ending. Even though there’s a truth to that, the frequency of tragic ending to some series is rather emotional draining for its audience. How will a couple go through so much in a make-believe world to get final happiness, only for them to die in the end?

Lakhan and poonam

9. The incessant use of year leaps

In recent times, this trend has been common with almost all the series been shown on Zee World.

You can get leaps of over 20 years followed with the introduction of new characters and a totally new storyline. Some show would have made impact if they just stopped with the beginning storyline.

But when these leaps are made, they end up confusing the audience even more or at worst make them lose interest in the series totally.

Conclusion:

These criticisms may seem as not a big deal to some fans, but it may matter to other fans.

While we do not expect the producers of these series to break bank while trying to create one, but they should consider upping their game and insist on choosing quality over quantity.

Bollywood is one of the greatest movie industries globally and poor quality  series such as this would only serve a negative reputation before its global audience.

  1. No. 6,7,8: Since they all live together, whenever they go out & back 4rm their various biz, that’s how it will be. 7:In NWD, expression is an issue & moreover, is not everytime u use ur mouth. 8: World Princess Diana can’t see it, d C.Parkers have2 manage

  2. All this is so true and saddening..I guess that is why their movie stars font appear in the series. They already lost me as an audience because some actions are so absurd it gives me headache especially when it can easily be defended or avoided. This critism is exactly my issue with them.I hope they work on it soon.

  3. The main annoying things are missing here. But permit me to add it. I hope and pray the Producers and Directors of Indian series will see this and take to correction.

    1. Losing of memory in almost all their series.
    2. Every sickness, fall, minor accident needs operation and at the end of the day a bandage will always tie round their forehead.
    3. Every of their series, there must be a lookalike infact an identical person who is not in any way related the person. A lookalike that a husband, Mother, Kids wouldn’t not even recognize. But not related, it can only happen in zeeWorld.
    4. The wicked never suffered, they were always forgiven even if they killed the whole world and do evil worst that satan. While the innocent dies, suffers all through.
    5. They keep secret too much. The good help the wicked keep secret and the wicked use it against them. The good always forgive, trust and accept the wicked even if they break the trust a million times.

  4. Can the way series are written and produced change. Its tiring to see main actors in zeeWorld series always die. From watching different series on this channel I see almost same storyline. Tragedy upon tragedy for as long as it takes. If this is how Indians live in real life then hummmm I am scared of even visiting there. This may not be where I should be saying this but the stories are become less interesting and too tragic by the day. Making people to lose interest. Let see the happy and real site of Indian society just like many years back where all I wanted was marry an Indian man cuz of how their society was portrayed then

  5. I agreed with all of the above cause thats the reason viewers lost interest in Zeeworld its not entertaining anymore in fact its annoying second it learn people how to be cunning and that evil trumps over good so sad

  6. Why would evil always triumph over good in all your zee world movies.what moral are you teaching people especially the young ones.It does not portray Indians in a positive light, evil plots upon plots,it does not make sense at all.iIt only shows how evil you people are.pls change the narrative thank you

  7. Anytime that I watch zee world epcially twist of fate, I fell like braking the TV or even the Gotv. It’s like they are using charm for people black magic. Because when ever we discuss not to watch it, we still end up watching again and again. They is always lookalike, is only in India that when someone die they will come back to disame family. Example.
    Mehek
    Ring of fire
    Enternal love and many more.
The only one I recommend to watch is Zara’s nikha or begusari.

  8. It’s better, zeeworld is scrapped from DSTV and GO TV because it’s rubbish from beginning to end. From the story line, directing and editing. It should be replaced with better channel because evil always prevale over good
